Pauline Baynes, illustrator.

What an amazing illustrator and fascinating woman, friend of Tolkien, notable illustrator of the first printing of the Narnia Chronicles, and even a speaker of Hindi. I cannot add anything to this lovely obituary here, from the Telegraph, after her death in 2008, or this one from the Independent.  I would love to get my hands on her versions of the Nicene Creed, a bestiary, and even an illustrated costume compendium! What treasures.

Wow. What an amazingly gifted woman- and what a gift she gave us. I love the photograph of her at the top.

My kids each have a copy of her Nicene Creed book, given as gifts from some friends to commemorate their baptisms. It's beautiful!
