I love a good metaphor.

After a roller-coaster of a week, I found this post on one of my frequented blogs. Especially interesting to me is this quote:
Self-control is like a thermostat, setting the temperature, and keeping things at an even keel. Emotions are like the thermometer, affected by the surrounding climate or conditions, and given to great fluctuation.
Given to great fluctuation.
Indeed. Someone said this week that what I need most desperately is stability. How does one tame one's internal thermostats to an even level? Fretting and Worry are fighting with Calm and Collected over the control of the thermostat, and nobody's winning. Except the electric company with a honkin' big bill.
